Personally I would have just raised him to like 3500/4000 and let him decide. If he shoves at that point, he's probably got something good. If he flat calls, you could shove there and he could have laid down something like AQ possibley.

Even if you just flat called his raise, the six high flop would have started a raising war. Those chips were going all in either way.

Tough hand for sure.

Thanks for the advice and observation.  Yes, I agree with that flop it would have ended up an all in shove as an end reslut.

Let's see.....in the small facing a 4x BB from a mid-late player....150 left in tourney....with 88.  Unless you KNOW this guy is a loose player making a steal, this is nothing but a recipe for disaster.  Especially in online play.  A call in the big blind would have been moderately loose even with the dead money and discount.

Assuming this guys is loose, he could have made this play with A,K...9, which case your in a race at best, dominated at worse.  This was a play that simply didn't need to be made.  Too many opportunities to come to push this one.  To me, tournament play requires solid chip stack management almost as much as good play.

I am not big on that play.  I probably would have just called to see if I could have kept the pot small unless I flopped a set.  But don't listen to me I have been a fish for the last 3 months.  You were playing to win and I cannot fault that.  In retrospect was this the right time to make that play?  Were you in the money or getting close?  Its up to you.  I guess it goes back to my feeling..you only are gonna get called if you are beat.

Yeah......a call here wouldn't have been a bad play either.  Particularly if this guy is a weak player.  There may have been an opportunity to bet him out of the pot.  Could have made a 1/2 pot bet after the flop.  May have taken it there or at least prevented him from making a big raise and baught a free card on the river.  As always, hind sight is 20/20.
