Hey all, I was watching WSOP and letting turkey digest and I had a thought. I don't know if we could get enough interest or not, but we should form an OklahomaPoker.net poker club and sponsor one player to the WSOP main event.  If we could get 120 players to invest $100 each, that would cover entry fee and travel for one person.  Then we could use our weekly tournament to decide who to send.  If that person cashes, the first $12K goes back to the players, then do a 50/50 split for anything above that.

Any thoughts?

I really like the idea but think we may have a few issues.  First getting that many to invest $100 a piece would be very tough.  Maybe what we could do is have a monthly live tourney where we have a buyin of around $50 and take the first $1000 of each tourney and put it aside for the WSOP and take what's left to give out as winnings for that particular tourney (We'd need to insure that there were over 20 people in each tourney).  We could have a live leaderboard and keep stats based on where you placed at each tourney combined with how many tourneys played (Forces people to continue to play in the tourneys).  Once we hit 12 tourneys we would have that magic number and could send the top guy to the WSOP.

The more I think about it, you're right...getting that many folks would be hard.  All we really need to do is get 20 people to commit to a monthly $50 tournament.  Hell...think about it....for $50 a month you can play for a spot in the WSOP.  Even if your not top player, you have a 1/20th share in a pretty good poker player.  The more I think about it, the more excited I get.  I think this is a very do-able plan.

Well, my wife's out of town so I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd draft this up.  I'm in, so we only need 19 other people to agree to do this.  If you're seriously interested, e-mail me at silvrdollar@cox.net.  If we get 20 people, then we can hammer out the details...live, online, tournament structure, etc.

1.  Member’s of the OklahomaPoker.net WSOP Pool agree to pay $50.00 per month for 12 months into the pool account.

2.  In exchange, members of the pool receive the right to play in 12 monthly tournaments.  The top 5 places will be awarded points during the course of 12 months.

3.  Tournament points will be awarded in the following order; 5 points for 1st, 4 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd, 2 points for 4th, and 1 point for 5th place.

4.  The Pool member with the highest point total after the 12 monthly tournaments will receive the $12,000.00 collected for the sole purpose of paying the entry fee and travel expenses for the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas.

5.  In the case of any ties for the highest point total, members will play one NLHE event.  The winner will receive the trip.

6.  In the event a pool member is unable to play in any tournament, that does not relieve them of the obligation to pay the monthly $50.00 fee.

7.  In the event the winner of the pool finishes in the money at the WSOP, the first $12,000 in winnings will be paid back to the members in 20 equal shares.  Any winnings in excess of $12,000 will be divided between the pool winner and members.  The winner will receive 50% of the tournament winnings and the remaining 50% will be paid to the pool members in 1/20th shares.  Any monetary or non-monetary incentives received by the pool winner will be retained by winner (meaning should he or she get lucky/good enough to win, they should get to keep any endorsement deals).

This is a very good idea SilvrDollar.  I would love to be a part of the Poker League.  Here are a few random thoughts:

1)   Live Poker Settings.  Although it would be easier logistically for regular scheduled online tournaments, the WSOP is not an online tourney.  The League champ would be better off honing some decent live poker skills.  IrishRed, how’s that new poker room coming along?  Sooner_bluff, your room set up yet?
2)   League Alternate Member Policy.  As the season progresses, we are likely to lose some participation (anyone remember KThasaSet?) Perhaps we should implement an Alternate System to fill-in for the league drop-outs.  Maybe issue partial shares in these cases?
3)   League Statistics.  After agreeing on the Point System, we should post the stats/standings online.  Trintdaddy could post on OKP.net or we could use a site like HomePokerTour.com
4)   Attorney League Member.  We should probably get some decent paper drawn up on the cheap.  Anyone know a decent attorney fish who might want in?
5)   League Hierarchy.  I nominate SilvrDollar for League President!!  It should be noted that I once was class Treasurer in High School and there were some embezzlement allegations. Nothing proven though.  I nominate BleednOrnge for Treasurer; he is so tight he couldn’t spend the money if he really tried.
6)   League Launch Date. We are a bit late for the 2008 WSOP.  So do we kick-off the League in March or April targeting the 2009 WSOP?

Any other ideas? What say you OKP.Neters out there?

I like everything said here.  I'm in.  I would say though we make it $75 to give that nights winner some cash as well

I would love to be in and I agree it needs to be a live tourney probably at someones home since if we went to a casino there would be others and the points would get distorted.  My problem is that I live around the other town in Ok.  I assume the majority of participants would be from the OKC area so the day of the event would be important as I would not be able to play through the week and the wife may not want me to be gone on weekends sometimes, just suffered through another cowboy season of hearing her complain about me being gone and that was only for 6 games.

Man, I'm pumped to see this getting some traction.  We still need to recruit some more people in....get the word out folks.

I agree that a March or April kick off shooting for an 09 WSOP is best.  That gives us time to get players, work out details etc.  We should have done this a long time ago.

I'm brand new to this site but I think this is a great idea. I live in OKC and would love to be a part of it. As a new guy who none of you know I would also be willing to spread the word to some other players I know who might be interested, but I also understand if those of you who have been around awhile would prefer participants who you are more familiar with. Let me know either way.

Welcome to the site Guildenstern.  I'm pretty sure we're going to have to recruit from outside of group of regulars.    I don't have any problem with newbies....we were all one at some time or another.

I think the real key is going to be people who are truly committed to this endeavour.

Hey Traek

My poker room is great and always full on sat night,  but how many players are you talking about for the monthly tourneys?    My room holds 10 and I can do 8 at another table set up with a table top, (but you guys would have to bring extra chairs, I only have 12)  I dont think that would come close to covering the amount of people wanting to play, do you?

That's should work Red.  20 people at $75 ea should do it.

$1000 for trip

$500 for that nights winners
Maybe something like:
1st  = $250
2nd = $150
3rd  = $100

Or something like that.

OkieDragon,

 I love the $75 entry idea and the 1000/250/150/100 pay scale.  Irish, your Poker Room sounds great for some of the tourneys.  I might be able to help with extra tables/tabletops/chairs.  I hear sooner_bluff is working on a room too.

We need some more people to step-up.  Trintdaddy?  Wilmu?  sooner_bluff?  BleednOrnge? Cosc?  What do you say?

Another thought,  the monthly tourney would pretty much have to be early on saturdays (to clear my room for sat night if its here) or even on Sunday, any ideas??

Hi everybody. I just signed up. I found out about this forum from the private tourney on Stars. Maybe I will see some of you tommorow night there.

I would be interested in playing in this league. I agree with those who say live would be better than online. I live in Tulsa, but I can make it to OKC on the weekend if that's were we have it. I have played in the seniors tournament at the WSOP the past couple of years, but I would love to have a go at the main event with the deep stacks and two hour levels.
