this happened on the very first hand of a 45 player $22 SNG. he fired out the pot sized bet in first positon on the flop which could have been anything I guess. i folded mostly from confusion and not feeling like they would have held.

what would you guys do here?

that is just a plain ole shitty flop.  most people it seems to me if they limp in on the first hand of the tourney they will go ahead and call a raise as well as I think most people are skeptical of people raising on the very first hand  and want to see what they are raising with.  He could have had only AK or J-10...KQ...KJ and was opened ended with top pair.  Who knows.  You cant win a sng on the first hand but you can sure lose one.

I would have kicked my stress-relief ball across the house after the flop, then fold.  He probably hit two pair, (KT?) but with this being the first hand who knows?  Good fold early.

Tough spot.  My problem is that it’s hard to give the SB credit for any kind of a hand that isn’t re-raised pre-flop.  You have an overpair to the board, a redraw to the nut straight and a backdoor draw to the flush.  I think I call and am ready to push the turn without a horrible card (9D maybe).

I’m always of the opinion that there is another SNG about to start and I’m not going to ever play scared.  Folding this seems like a weak play to me.  You’re also telling the table early on that your raises can get pushed around post flop.  What hands do you honestly put the SB on?  They could very easily have J8, K2s, or one of many other hands that you beat.

I certainly don’t like the call, but I’m not going to fold here.  Do you all agree with the fold?

I kept thinking KQ or K10 for some reason and thats what made me fold. I doubt the small blind would have re-raised those preflop in first position but I could definitely seem him flat-calling.

Most of the confusion from this hand was because it was the very first hand of the tournament. It was bascially a choice of try to double up early and push eveyrone around or keep my original starting stack and try to out play everyone. I guess I tried the latter.

I agree with several of the statements here. Playing scared is never a good thing. You'll also never win a SNG on the first hand but you can definitely lose one.

I'm starting to think that the flat call and possible push on the turn might have been the way to go. I guess I'll just have wait for this situation again and see what happens.
